N.S. Wildfire Season 2023 Updates

Monday, April 24, 2023

Nova Scotia Wildfire Season runs from March 15th to October 15th.

As of April 24th, there have been 65 Wildfires in Nova Scotia. This has increased by 31 since my last update on April 14th.

This is quite high already, as last year (2022) between March 15th-October 15th there were a total of 152 wildfires in Nova Scotia, damaging 3,389 hectares of Crown and privately owned lands.

We remind everyone to please be cautious and take important steps to prepare and ALWAYS Check before you Burn!

· No Burning 🛇 is permitted between the hours of 8am and 2pm – from March 15-October 15th

· You must phone in 1-855-564-2876 or go online to https://novascotia.ca/burnsafe to see if it is safe to burn. The burn map is updated daily at 2:00 pm

· Restrictions will be by County and represented in one of the following colors:

o Green means burn after 2:00pm and have your fire out by 8:00am,

o Yellow means burn after 7:00pm and have your fire out by 8:00am

o Red means no burning at all.

· These restrictions are set in place for the safety of the public and burning is only permitted when it is the lowest possible fire risk.

· In the evenings and after/during rain events it is the safest to burn as temperatures are lower, humidity is higher and winds are calmer.

· To report Wildfires call – 1-800-565-2224 or 911
